Biography
Dr. Nicholas Jaegers' research in materials and catalysis integrates kinetic rate assessments, tailored materials synthesis, molecular modeling, and spectroscopy to develop and understand catalytic materials for applications in energy, sustainability, and the environment. His work discerns fundamental, molecular-level insights involved in catalytic reactions in addition to application-directed improvements to reaction systems. Jaegers joined the faculty at The University of New Mexico in January 2025. He earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University (2014) and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Washington State University (2019; Prof. Yong Wang). His doctoral work developed and deployed methods of in situ solid-state NMR spectroscopy for use in oxide catalysts at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Dr. Jian Zhi Hu), where he simultaneously undertook several research projects. Postdoctoral research was completed at the University of California, Berkeley (Prof. Enrique Iglesia), where non-toxic, cost-effective catalytic materials were developed for light molecule transformations.
